It is almost 55 years since Martin Luther King Jr delivered his legendary _I Have a Dream_ speech during the March on Washington, calling an end to racism and demanding civil and economic rights. Yet, equality remains a distant dream for many Americans today. This year, to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy fifty years after his assassination in 1968, _The Atlantic_ has released a ‘special issue’:https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/toc/2018/02/ in memory of the visionary civil rights activist. The type-led magazine is a powerful piece of social activism that pays tribute to a man whose words played a key role in advancing equality nationwide. Framed by Dr King’s _Three Evils_ speech where he identifies racism, poverty and war as the world’s main malignancies, the MLK issue is a celebration of one of the most important figures in modern history.

Clueless and green, hopeful and a bit disoriented, Nemfrog tentatively emerged on the scene on December 22, 2013. Five years later, I’ve been called a Tumblr institution, the hardest working blogger on Tumblr, an inspiration and a few things which the new TOS don’t allow me to repeat. There’s an ethos to this blog. Nemfrog doesn’t reblog stuff floating in air that everyone can see. Nemfrog scours out-of-the way urls, downloading books and other digital matter, page after page after page after page, sifting through the tedious, the ugly, the banal and predictable, to pull out images that are compelling and fresh and that have mostly been overlooked.

People recognize there’s something different about this blog, even if they don’t exactly know how it got that way.

Nemfrog rescues content. I liberate images from the grip of time. I’m also archiving which means I’m maintaining a searchable database available for artists and academics.

I do it because I love doing it. But it’s also work, which deserves to be respected and compensated. A lot of work. I rarely carry on this way. But Nemfrog is five and now is the right time.
